Senate Resolution 11

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EXCHANGE CLUB OF BYRAM, MISSISSIPPI, UPON ITS ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND FOR ITS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.

WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Byram, Mississippi, was chartered on January 26, 1998, with 50 members, and thereupon, elected Donna Arnold as charter President; and

WHEREAS, the Exchange is America's oldest service club and is a progressive member organization which focuses on personal and professional development, building a healthy society and aiding America's communities; and

WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Byram has four programs of service to aid our communities: Americanism, Youth, Community Service and Child Abuse Prevention; and

WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Byram raised over $14,000.00 from April through December 1998 to fund the club's various community projects, such as Child Abuse Prevention Month, GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE, various crime prevention programs and various senior citizens programs; and

WHEREAS, every month the Exchange Club of Byram honors students from area schools by recognizing them to receive the Student of the Month Award and the Citizenship Award; and

WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Byram gives an annual award to the Police Officer of the Year and to the Fireman of the Year for their fearless service to the community; and

WHEREAS, the Exchange Club of Byram recently won the National Service Award for its volunteer work in Americanism, Youth, Community Service and Child Abuse Prevention, and for the club's extraordinary dedication in meeting the challenge to serve the community through these projects; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi Senate to commend the exemplary service of its citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Exchange Club of Byram, Mississippi, upon its one-year anniversary and for its dedicated service to the community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Exchange Club of Byram and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
